Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning (MATL)
This cohort-style 33 credit hour program helps you grow as a teacher, offering you stimulating ideas about curriculum design, assessment, classroom management and other aspects of teaching.
Core courses:
- Current Issues and Trends in Education
- Diversity, Curriculum and Research
- Management and Assessment of Learning
- Curriculum Development
- Research Seminar
You will also complete a 12 credit hour emphasis/elective area designed to meet your individual content area interests. Your district may coordinate their own professional development programs with Missouri State to allow for up to 12 hours of college credit by assessment—and, if so, those 12 credits would be offered to you, tuition free.
Admission requirements
Bachelor’s degree; certification or the potential for certification to teach P-12.
Specialist Degree in Teacher Leadership (SETL)
This cohort-style 36 credit hour degree plan, designed to develop teacher-leaders, consists of 24 core course credits. At least 18 of these courses will be delivered in hybrid format (partially on site in your district and partially online).

- Contemporary Educational Problems
- Diversity and Curricular Design
- Building Classroom Climate and Effective Student Assessments
- Curriculum Theory
- Foundations of Educational Administration
- Field Research and Evaluation
You will also be required to complete a 12 credit hour “emphasis area” or slate of electives designed to meet your individual content area interests. Your district may coordinate their own professional development programs with Missouri State to allow for up to 12 hours of college credit by assessment.

Please note: Neither of these degrees will lead to a School Administrator certification or Administrative degree leading to such certification.
