Course development stipend
Are you eligible?
You may apply for an $800 per credit hour stipend to develop any course for online delivery which has not previously had a development stipend paid out from MS Online.
To qualify, the course must contribute to an online degree program or certificate. You will work with an instructional designer through the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) for course development. A Certificate of Review from the FCTL must be submitted to MS Online to qualify for stipend fund budget transfers.
Are you a per course faculty member?
Per Course Faculty approved for an online course development stipend application are required to report time spent on course development separate from their teaching hours. Part-time employees have their hours tracked for Affordable Care Act compliance. The department submits a PAF to Human Resources prior to course development (it is not used for payment). HR will use the PAF to create a “leave report” for the per course faculty member; the hours devoted to course development are entered in this special form. A new stipend payment PAF is submitted by the department to the Provost’s Office when course development is finished and a Certificate of Review is issued.
To apply for the online course development stipend:
- Complete the Online Course Development Stipend Application (PDF)* and submit to your department head and dean for appropriate signatures.
- Submit a copy of the signed stipend application form to MSOnline@MissouriState.edu.
-
Your application will be reviewed by the director of Distance Programs and Policy and the Outreach associate provost. After the review is completed, you will receive an email notice that your application was approved or declined.
-
Approved stipend applicants must continue course development with an instructional designer. Please contact the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) instructional designers. They will assist you with planning and completing your course development.
- Once your course is fully developed, the designer will review the course using the Online Learning Consortium Quality Scorecard (OLC-QS) and issue a Certificate of Review document. Email this document to MSOnline@MissouriState.edu.
- Once MS Online receives the document, the stipend funds will be transferred to your departmental budget. MS Online will notify your dean, department head, administrative assistant and college budget officer when the fund transfer is complete. PAFs to individual faculty members are written by the departments based on their guidelines for payments.
Development stipend funds are transferred to departmental budgets periodically in February, April, September and November. Departments are responsible for submitting stipend PAFs to the Office of the Provost.
