Missouri State Online Student Complaint Procedures
Missouri State University seeks to provide quality programs and services for the benefit of the public while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and consistent application of all institutional policies. Students in distance programs may file complaints through the university.
The procedures for grievance filing vary based on the type of grievance. The university’s student complaint procedures policy statement provides links for addressing specific types of complaints. Complaints not covered by specific policies are addressed through the appropriate chain of command in accordance with the university’s organizational structure.
Exhaustion of all informal and formal institutional processes, including both campus processes and any applicable system processes, is a prerequisite to filing any formal complaint with the Missouri SARA State Portal Entity, the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (DHEWD).
For distance students in Missouri:
If dissatisfied with the resolution of the Missouri State’s grievance process, the student may file a complaint with DHEWD by calling (573) 522-1377 or emailing joshua.fischer@dhewd.mo.gov. The DHEWD Complaint Resolution Policy provides additional details.
For distance students outside the state of Missouri:
Students who live outside of Missouri and remain dissatisfied after exhausting the Missouri State student complaint procedures may appeal to their SARA State Portal Entity. A directory of state office contact information is available on the national SARA web site.
