Graduation Details for Outreach Students in West Plains

Springfield Students on the MSU-West Plains campus who plan to graduate in May 2013 with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree are eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony locally at the West Plains Civic Center, or at the ceremony held on the MSU-Springfield campus. MSU-West Plains has one commencement ceremony per year, while the MSU-Springfield campus holds commencement at the conclusion of each semester.

Commencement

The spring 2013 commencement ceremony will be held at the West Plains Civic Center, Saturday, May 18 at 10am. Rehearsal for commencement will be held at the West Plains Civic Center on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 1pm.

Students should arrive at 9am at the West Plains Civic Center the day of commencement and pick up their name cards at the front table to carry to the stage during the ceremony.  You may make changes on the name card of how you would like for your name to be announced as you walk across stage. There will be an area behind the stage for students to change into their caps and gowns. A professional photographer will take individual and group pictures prior to the ceremony. Order forms and picture prices/packages will be available.

Eligibility

You are eligible to attend the commencement ceremony if you are completing your degree at the end of spring 2013, have 6 hours or less to complete in order to graduate by the end of the summer 2013 semester, or have already graduated in fall 2012.

 

 

Graduation Checklist

Exit Exam:

All bachelor degree candidates must complete the University Assessment Exit Exam prior to graduation.  This exam is available on the West Plains campus at the Student Advisement and Academic Support office (SAAS) in the Garnett Library. Although the exam is required for graduation the score on the exam does not affect graduation. The date of the exam is Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 9am.

Students graduating in May will need to register for the exam through BearPass  or  www.My.MissouriState.edu. You need to register in the Spring 2013 semester for the following section and CRN# if you plan to take the exam in West Plains:

CRN# 29694  GEN 499  013  University Exit Examination

You will need to provide photo identification at the exam and it is advised to bring (2) #2 pencils and a calculator to the exam.  The exam is only offered once a semester in the fall and spring. If you cannot take it at the above date you will be required to take the exam on the Springfield campus and register for a section at that location.

Intent to Graduate:

Students who plan to graduate in Spring are required to file an Intent to Graduate form online. If you won’t be graduating until the end of the Summer semester, you will need to fill out the Intent to Graduate and list “Summer” as the graduation semester instead of Spring. You may fax, mail, or scan and email the form to the Office of the Registrar. You will find out where to send this form at the bottom of the form.

Caps, Gowns, Tassels, Hoods, and Announcements:    

Springfield students who plan to graduate and attend commencement in West Plains may order their caps and gowns from the Drago College Bookstore on the West Plains campus. A Graduation Fair will be held at the bookstore March 18-22, 2013. You are encouraged to stop by during the fair and purchase your caps and gowns. Announcements should be ordered through the Springfield bookstore.

Scholastic Honors:

If you are eligible to receive an honor cord, those will be provided to you at no cost and they will be available for pickup in Melton Hall #218 on the West Plains campus beginning March 18th. I will receive a list of students eligible for honors from the Springfield campus. You will be notified via email if you should pick up a cord. Graduation Announcements:

If you choose to order graduation announcements, there is a link on the Baker Bookstore web page for West Plains’ students to order those. Please follow the instructions below to order:

  • Order announcements online at http://www.herffjones.com/college/missouristate
  • Click Order Announcements after you click the link above
  • At the Herff-Jones page use the drop down box and select Announcements and/or Ship Cap/Gown home. This will bring up another drop down box.
  • Click West Plains Campus Ceremony (the date should come up for Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM)
  • Choose your degree type in the next box and hit continue (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
  • At the next page confirm the date and time of the West Plains campus ceremony is correct for what you have chosen.
  • Once you have confirmed the information is correct, please select Announcements in the green bar at the top of the page and fill in all the information to complete the order.

Students who plan to graduate this spring should check with their advisors and review their degree audit to cover any questions and finalize graduation details.
