Proctored Exam Procedures for Faculty

Main Campus Proctoring

    1. Faculty who wish to use the Test Proctoring Center for proctoring must make their reservation two weeks before the semester begins. Faculty who are first-time users of the Center will be required to attend a brief orientation. If the Center is fully reserved, faculty are responsible for proctoring their own exams on Saturdays.
    2. The days and hours of operation are:

Tuesday – 8:30am to 4:30pm (lunch 12-1pm)
Wednesday – 8:30am to 4:30pm (lunch 12-1pm)
Thursday – 8:30am to 4:30pm (lunch 12-1pm)

Additional evening hours will be available during the final exam period on Tuesday from 4:30pm-8:30pm. Exams must be completed by 8:30pm.

  1. Faculty who wish to administer their own exams on Saturday must make arrangements through their departments.
  2. Courses with proctored exams should include this information in the comments area of Banner when loading the course schedule each semester.
  3. Faculty should establish exam dates in the syllabus:
    • Specify date, time and location of exam
    • Articulate the rules of the exam (open or closed book, notes, scrap paper, Internet use, calculator usage, cell phone policy, etc).
  4. The test proctoring center may only be used for online exams (not for paper exams).

Proctored Exams at MSU/OTC Authorized Off-Campus Sites

It is your responsibility to send the test materials to the designated proctor along with any information they will need to access and administer the test. Please request feedback from the test proctor to ensure that they have received the instructions.

Out-of-Region Proctoring

  1. Faculty are responsible for approving out of region proctors and setting standards for proctor approval with their students.
  2. Students must locate their own out-of-region proctor at least two weeks before the testing event. the student will email the instructor a completed Proctor Information Form providing the details of their proposed proctor. Responsibility will be with the faculty member and their department for approval of a proctor.
  3. Payment of any charges in relation to out-of-region test-proctoring services will be the responsibility of the student.
  4. The instructor will communicate with the approved proctor providing them with the details they will need in order to access and administer the exam (including regulations and restrictions that apply) at least 48 hours before testing event. The instructor must request a confirmation from the proctor that they have received everything they need.
